Practice Teams Enhance Services

As part of Gannett Fleming's program to continuously improve its services, we are now utilizing “Practice Teams," each led by a “National Practice Manager."  Core business teams include environmental resources, transportation, facilities and information technology.

All of the teams consist of full-time staff focused on improving approaches throughout the geographical areas of each practice.  These teams ensure that all projects meet our high corporate quality standards.

Western Water Supply Engineering

The City of Albuquerque, NM, has selected the Camp Dresser McKee / Gannett Fleming team for design and construction services on its new Diversion Project, an integral component in the City's replacement of its existing water supply source and treatment system. Gannett Fleming will lead the design of a new low-head, inflatable dam on the Rio Grande, a fishway around the dam, and a 130 cfs riverside raw water intake.  Camp Dresser McKee, the project lead, will design a new pump station and approximately 5 miles of large-diameter transmission pipeline through the City.

Reaching Out In Lancaster, PA

There will be an open house at our Lancaster, PA, office on April 30th.  The office is located at 1650 Manheim Pike.  Contact Office Manager Gary Martin (gmartin@gfnet.com) for more information.  On display will be the Zoning Lexicon we have been preparing for the Lancaster County Planning Commission.

Dick Koch and Troy Truax from our Harrisburg Comprehensive Planning Group are also assisting the Lancaster County Planning Commission with organizing and facilitating the "Lancaster County Smart Growth Conference" on April 29th at Millersville University.  Go to the Lancaster County web site for more information  (www.co.lancaster.pa.us/envision).  The Zoning Lexicon brochure will be highlighted at the conference.

More Project Wins

Gannett Fleming was awarded a contract from the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA), PA, to develop and implement an environmental management system (EMS) that meets ISO 14001 requirements. The EMS will include all LCSWMA activities including landfills, transfer station, resource recovery facility, household hazardous waste acceptance facility, maintenance facilities and engineering/ administrative functions.  (click here for information about our award-winning EMS landfill activities from Issue 2).

Our firm was appointed Authority Engineer and awarded a Construction Management Services Contract for the Economy Borough Municipal Authority (EBMA), PA.  EBMA is in the process of awarding Construction Contracts for the $33.5 million Big Sewickley Creek Wastewater Treatment Project in Beaver County, PA. The project's construction phase is anticipated to begin in June, 2002 and will be completed in December, 2003.

P2E2 Could Be For You

Pennsylvania provides a grant of up to $15,000 to fund Pollution Prevention(P2)/Energy Efficiency(E2) Site Assessments at qualifying facilities.  This includes both water and wastewater treatment plants.

For more information on funding requirements; or Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) P2/E2 policy and procedural information click here.

Water Resources Drought a BIG Concern

PADEP Secretary David Hess has been testifying on a State House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee regarding Governor Schweiker's water resources initiatives.

Logon to the PADEP web site and read what Secretary Hess said on the drought at the recent Pennsylvania Rural Water Association (PRWA) and Juniata, PA, Watershed events.

Dam Security

Bill Bingham recently presented a paper at an American Public Works Association meeting in Phoenix, AZ, entitled “Security at Dams: Are Dams a Target of Terrorism?”.  Bill is President of the United States Society on Dams (USSD) and a Gannett Fleming Vice President.  His presentation focused on how to effectively handle dam security threats, in particular, high- hazard dams. Bill also discussed the status of current federal and state dam security programs.

For more information, read our Director's Message.

Cellular SCADA Presentations

Gannett Fleming Instrumentation and Control Experts Dean Foote and Evan Curtis recently wrote a paper focusing on Cellular SCADA as a new approach to data communications.  They are also delivering several presentations on the same topic this Spring.  Target audiences include the Northeast AWWA, Chesapeake Section AWWA and the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association.

Stay tuned for more information.

Dam Sustainability

In Issue 2, Dave Sheridan spoke about “Sustainability,” and the need to include its principles and technologies in all aspects of our projects.  To hear the latest outlook on dam sustainability, we encourage you to consider attending the 22nd Annual Meeting of the United States Society on Dams, to be held in San Diego, CA, on June 24-28, 2002.  This year's theme is "Dams-Innovations for Sustainable Water Resources."

Pennsylvania Water Works Conference

The 54th Annual PA Section AWWA Conference will be held from May 20-23 in the Pocono Mountains.  Gannett Fleming will be a sponsor and an exhibitor.
