Funding
For The First
LEED™-Registered
Water Treatment Plant
|
The
Northampton Borough Municipal Authority (NBMA) recently received a
$2,000 grant from the Sustainable Energy Fund of Central Eastern
Pennsylvania. Gannett
Fleming secured the funding, which will be used for energy modeling
to support its design of NBMA’s new 8 mgd water treatment plant in
North Whitehall Township, PA.

The
LEED™ Factor
Among
other factors (see Issue 13, "Sustainability
and The LEED™ Certification Process), NBMA realized that a LEED™-certified
project provided lowering standard operating expenses.
| Social
Awareness . . . |
| The
water plant is being designed so that local
schools can conduct educational tours. As a LEED™-certified
building, these tours can introduce the sustainable design
features to young students. |
NBMA
considered LEED™
design provisions for both plant facilities and site work, including energy
efficient motors, lights and controls used to minimize power requirements.
Natural materials and recycled materials were also included to minimize
environmental impacts.
